Preparing for a sustainable future
We partnered with Aker Solutions to lay a robust foundation for its new engineering consultancy venture. We helped the leadership team envision, challenge, and prepare for plausible future scenarios that align with the industry’s shift toward sustainable practices. This process produced a tangible artefact for conceptualizing the future, driving co-creation, and igniting internal innovation.
Building a tangible vision of the future
Aker Solutions aimed to accelerate its entry into renewable consulting but needed a structured way to explore evolving industry trends and shifts in energy. It sought a comprehensive vision and actionable framework to align its expertise with the demands of a greener future. The challenge lay in transforming strategic concepts into a practical, foresight-driven model to guide development.
A Futures Design methodology
To build a strong vision and lay the foundation for a successful business venture, we needed a process, methodology, and tools to better understand the changes shaping the future of the business, industry, customers’ expectations – and the world around us. Our Futures Design methodology was at the core of our collaboration, laying the foundation to shift from a reactionary to anticipatory mindset, while enabling co-creation across functions.
Discussing emerging shifts and plausible futures with domain experts
Our approach centered on three pillars: analyzing future context, developing a core vision, and creating a tangible artifact. By crafting scenarios around key change drivers, we collaboratively refined business models, products, and services. The tangible artifact provided a visual framework, sparking conversations across Aker’s teams to align around future goals and strategies.
The artifact explains our strategy, gives us a tool to get into future-back mode, and is a sandbox which allows us to test new ideas and business models.
