On a mission to build the transport system of the future, Ruter partnered with Manyone to bring design-driven innovation into its ecosystem of stakeholders, infrastructure, and investments.
Since 2020, our strategists and designers have been working with Ruter to understand its diverse stakeholder groups and users, shape and adopt an ambitious future-oriented perspective, and co-create tools and solutions to challenges and opportunities within Ruter's complex value chain.
And because of its forward-leaning approach, driven by design and innovation, Ruter is close to making Oslo’s public transport network emission-free — years before the initial target.

Research for a global report from the International Association of Public Transport
Much of our work has been centred around critical assets and infrastructure, such as bus depots and buses. Using methods from research and design, we’ve mapped the complexity of its interdependent operations and the diversity of its internal and external user groups and their needs.
Combining this with signals of the technical opportunities in the near and far future, we’ve distilled it into functional guides — with the goal of increasing the social, economic, and environmental sustainability of both the process and the output of shaping and acquiring buses and depots.
"Integrating design methodology into our processes has enabled us to better understand different needs, and get specific and aligned on the effects we want to achieve."
Key to all our projects with Ruter has been Manyone's ability to proactively conceptualise and visualise, drive the conversation forward, get specific, and test hypotheses through tangible artefacts.
We have also involved 200+ different stakeholders and end users in our processes.
Our work has enabled genuine co-creation and fostered a greater understanding of the ecosystem and everyone’s role across companies, domains, and levels.
